Wednesday, Where has the $ gone?
It is only Wednesday and we have how many more days until we get our allowance on Sunday? WAY TOO MANY!!
Brian confessed tonight that he used his debit card 3 times today.
1. work related (we’ll get reimbursed). 2. Lunch 3. PowerballI can’t complain about #1. And I can’t complain about #2. Brian has a great dad who has bought his lunch for the last two days, the least Brian could do was buy his dad’s lunch today. So how can I be upset that Brian bought his dad lunch (especially after he confessed that his lunch was free with a coupon!!).
There is no way I’ll complain about #3. Powerball is going to make us rich one of these days! haha. Wishful thinking, I know. But one day this blog will totally transform as we get to recount the awesome journey’s around the country that are possible because of powerball.
So, how did we get to Wednesday without any money? Well, I have $2 in my pocket. And my confession of the week is that I used $20 of my birthday money yesterday to grab some groceries before they went off sale. How could I say NO to $2.99 for chocolate milk, or $1 for Wisk laundry detergent? Of course I had to bribe my kids to be good since I was shopping RIGHT after work and they were cranky and hungry so ice cream from McDonald’s came in handy.
I also supported my own gambling cause today… $5 for 5 raffle tickets a co-worker was selling for her daughter. What COULD I win- at best a $600 Visa prepaid card. And I could pay off part of my student loan with that I think. That much closer to being debt free. While I say that reality would probably be that I buy an iPhone, a GPS and possibly a remote car starter.
Where did our money go?
$10 Best Buy purchase $20 clothes shopping at a discount store (1 heavy USMC hoodie, and 6 t-shirts) $35 supper at the in-laws (where we actually left the kids for the rest of the evening) $30 (set aside for our Cheesecake’s By Sarah purchase on Saturday) $10 HyVee groceries ( I never get to shop at HyVee!) $5 Walgreen’s shopping trip with my sister (and I have $3 in RR to use at a later date) $5 CVS shopping trip with my sister ?? Charity function for Heroes for HealingWe both need to focus more and try to figure out how we are going to stay on budget. Being out of money on Wednesday and having three more days in the week is no fun! Hopefully, Brian takes his lunches for the rest of the week (I already take my lunches!)
Wish us luck as we try not to drag out that debit card for the rest of the week!

Leave the debit cards at home!! Only take grocery money & gas money with you when you need it. Don’t leave extra cash in your purse either (even birthday money). It’s a lot easier to spend money if you have it right there in your pocket. It’s not so easy if you have to drive all the way home, grab the money, and go out again. Make it inconvenient. You’ll be a lot more likely to say “no” to unplanned shopping trips if it means more work for you.
Great advice, Katie. We should use the debit card at home (but we use it for gas- no way am I dragging 2 kids into QT on my way to work!!)
If only I could get Brian’s away from him!!
If you’re in a not good position and have got no cash to move out from that point, you would have to take the business loans. Just because that would help you for sure. I take small business loan every year and feel OK just because of this.
