Farm Show
Brian and I spent a lot of time at the Farm Show in Kansas City a couple of weekends ago- over 3 hours of information gathering… without the kids!
The ‘without the kids’ really was the best part of the day. With them we could have either extended the trip by hours because they would have been climbing on tractors for hours, or we would have gotten frustrated and LEFT before getting the information we were searching for.
We went to a number of booths on Steel buildings, and trying to get a price from these guys is like pulling teeth. Everything is contingent on steel prices rising by double digits around the beginning of April. WOW 18 – 23% increase in prices is going to add a significant amount to our project.
We also visited several insulating stations. Foam insulation appears to be the way to go. The couple of companies we spoke with said basically the same information. We just have to narrow it down to price and which company to go with. I am really weird about going with the person I like the best, not necessarily the person with the rock bottom price. I guess I’m a sucker for a good salesperson, however, we need to find the right business because we are looking at a $15 to 20,000 investment in insulation.
The last major item we were looking at? Wood boilers. I don’t have much to say about wood boilers. I am not a fan of cutting and hauling firewood. One of the guys REALLY creeped me out. BUT I think Brian already knows WHO he wants to spend $9,000 or MORE with on a cute outdoor wood boiler.
All in all, I think we got a ton of great information. What we really need to do now is decide who to go with I think. Once we get the major pricing points figured- the building and erection, the boiler and insulation, we only have the inside details to contend with.
So- right now we definitely have at least $100,000 in building, boiler and insulation expenses to think about!
I will try to post MORE about these topics later.
